It's The Grimm!

Welcome and thanks for making your way to the special part of the internet that I've managed to carve out for myself!
I'm Danielle, the dog mom behind the @itsthegrimm accounts where I share my newest dog, Grimm, with anyone who will look at him.
Grimm came to me after losing two of my German Shepherds in the last two years. Thor was my heart dog, my four-legged soulmate, and his brother Tiny was my cantankerous old man with more sass than I ever knew what to do with. Losing them was harder than anything I've ever done before, and for a while I was convinced I would never have another dog, I didn't think my heart could take it.
I was wrong. Loki was my third German Shepherd, and no matter how much I tried to sway him, he was always a daddy's boy. I missed having a dog that was mine, and so the hunt began. I'll do another post where I'll go deeper into the dog selection process that I went through, but I'll give you the skinny version here.
I used to be a runner, and I want to be again. I loved the idea of having a dog who would be my running partner and I didn't think another German Shepherd was quite the right choice. I didn't have it in me to go through more hip issues, and part of me thought that getting another German would be an attempt to replace those I had lost. So, I stumbled on Australian Shepherds as a breed worth exploring.
I'm a teacher during most of my waking hours, so I had the best of intentions when I said I would wait until summer vacation before I got another dog. I got to Christmas break and caved. I found myself in a situation where I didn't have the money to buy from a "reputable" breeder, and found myself looking at rescues and even older dogs through Craigslist and PetFinder who needed a new furever home.
After several failed attempts in a three week period, I came across Grimm on Craigslist. He was the last puppy of the litter and hadn't gotten much interest. I went to visit him and met some of his sisters and his parents. He was the only puppy of the litter who wasn't a blue merle, and because the breeder opted not to dock tails, he looked more Border Collie than Aussie. I didn't care, he was 100% adorable and I was sold.
So that's how we started, keep your eyes peeled for more posts to see how it's been going.
